Mariposa
Video Game User Interface · User Experience Design
🤔 About The Project
I designed and prototyped Mariposa’s user interface, shaping intuitive in-game menus and navigation systems by leveraging Figma and Unity UI. As a member of the VGDC, I collaborated across disciplines to align player interaction with visual storytelling, and ultimately contributed to a Steam published title that merged design precision with immersive gameplay.
⚠️ The Problem
Mariposa’s strong visual style required a UI that supported narrative expression without sacrificing clarity or readability.
Players needed clear menus, hierarchy, and interaction patterns that reduced cognitive load and kept focus on puzzle solving.
With contributions from artists, designers, and engineers, the UI system needed shared standards and reusable components to ensure cohesion.
💡 Key Features
Complete In-Game Menu System – Designed and implemented major core menus including pause, settings, level select, and narrative screens.
Narrative-Aligned Visual Style – Created UI elements that reflect Mariposa’s atmospheric art direction, reinforcing story and mood through color, typography, and layout.
Intuitive Navigation Flow – Built clear interaction paths and transitions that guide players smoothly between levels, menus, and gameplay.
Reusable UI Component Library – Developed consistent buttons, icons, frames, and layouts that streamlined implementation across the entire game.
Unity UI Implementation – Translated Figma prototypes into production-ready Unity canvases with responsive scaling and integrated animations.
🏆 Achievements
Contributed to the launch of Mariposa on Steam through production-level UI design and implementation.
